I don't know if your cnc *only* works with Mach 3, but usually the best answer in these cases is to find an open source solution on a laptop/desktop running Linux, then get that solution running on the Pi either by finding that software already compiled for arm, or by downloading source code and compiling for arm on raspian. Would that matter in qemu? I must admit I've only done qemu the other way round (arm on IA) and only emulated real old things on my Pi. something about how wi does handles the USB that means it can't boot from one. Back on the first model B's, I saw a couple of emulated XP's using QEMU (and a lot of emulated dos/win 95's!)įrom what I saw the performance was hateful (x86 -> arm not so trivial) but the pi2b is the target now so it could be worth a try, however I'd probably not want to try and control machinery with it! I don't know about a USB stick though.

Back when Pi was new people did a lot of that emulation stuff to gauge performance.
